Large reduction in CO2 emissions
The Orbit coffin eliminates a long industrial production process that otherwise requires high energy consumption.
The panels come with a beautiful finish, so no further finishing is needed. The lightweight board does not need to be milled, nailed, painted or varnished, and an Orbit coffin is produced in one process and assembled without the use of heavy machinery or metal.
The choice of material for the Orbit coffin alone reduces CO2 emissions by more than 94%. A traditional standard wooden coffin consists of approx. 50% MDF and 50% chipboard. A 16 mm MDF board emits 20 kg CO2 per m2 and a 16 mm chipboard emits 6 kg CO2 per m2. Where 91 kg were emitted previously, only 5.4 kg of CO2 are now emitted.
Zero paint, varnish and metal
The panels for the Orbit coffin come with a beautiful finish and further finishing is unnecessary. The Orbit coffin is made of 100% combustible and biodegradable material. All metal is eliminated in the production and finish and bedding is done using water-based adhesives only. This means that the Orbit coffin is 100% biodegradable at burial and 100% combustible.
From 45 to just 12 kg
It's never easy to say a final goodbye. When the time comes for the coffin to be carried out, the weight can give rise to extra worry. The Orbit removes some of this worry because the basic weight of the coffin has been reduced by 33 kg. For example, if the deceased weighs 80 kg, a wooden coffin adds a large part of the total weight of 125 kg. With an Orbit, the total weight in the example is reduced by more than a quarter.
12 kg is a limit value
The fact that the Orbit coffin is below the official limit of what one person can handle is an additional advantage for the professionals in charge of the organisation before and after the ceremony. The low weight also offers several environmental benefits in transport, such as reduced fuel consumption.
Energy efficient production
The production of the Orbit consists of 3 energy efficient steps. In the first step, it is cut on a large-format cutting table that uses just 11 kWt. In the next step, the coffin is assembled using water-based adhesive. And, in the last step, the coffin is lined with OEKO-TEX paper textile, without the use of metal clips. There are no additional energy-intensive finishing processes.
